The Time we Make New Friends at School
Every kid in your new class wants to make a new friend as well, and here are a few steps to ease the process.
It’s that time when everyone is getting back to school. Whether you’re joining a new school or returning to the same playground, it might be beneficial to brush up on your friend making skill. Even for veteran school goers, getting back to school can be a little scary. But luckily it doesn’t have to be! Every kid in your new class wants to make a new friend as well, and here are a few steps to ease the process.
Step number 1.
Try and be as friendly as possible. Know that everyone in your class probably feels the same nervous feelings, even though some might not show it. Show your smile to everyone. Everyone loves a happy person. Try to talk to as many people as you can and this will make it easier to build a circle of friends. A good way to introduce yourself by your name or say ‘Hey remember me?’ Feel free to give a hug or two to the really good friends from last year.
Step number 2.
If your school offers it, join a team. This can be athletic, scholarly, musical, or even political such as student council. This is a sure fire way to get introduced to likeminded kids.
Step number 3.
Don’t be shy to say ‘hi’. Even though it’s tempting to let the other person make the first move, it’s usually easier to initiate a conversation with a simple hello. Suggest a game or two during breaks and invite people to play. Always make an effort to approach the new child or the shy child and make them feel included. You will feel super good for making someone else feel welcome and you will do a good deed at the same time!
Step number 4.
Now that you’ve broken the ice, it’s time to find some common ground. Start with what they may like, such as TV, shows, movies, music, etc. Once you find something in common it’s easier to make a bond. But even if you have nothing in common, ask each other about your interests. It is a great opportunity to learn about new things and new activities.
Step number 5.
It’s time to plan an adventure outside of the classroom. Ask your parents if you could invite some of the new friends you’ve made at school over to the house. If you get the okay, you can plan an evening of movies, or make a trip to the local park. If your parents are willing you could even have a barbeque.
If you follow these simple step then you’re on your way to making friends and having the best school year in front of you.
These are very common simple tips, but we would love to hear from you if you have more ideas on how to get to know people on the first day of school! Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Enjoy the new school year ahead!
